Evaluation question 2

Representing particularly social groups realistically and accurately is vitally important to the success of any movie wanting to be taken seriously. If your characters aren't convincing in the way they act, dress and live their lives then your audience won't be convinced either.

We wanted to stick to this and portray our characters as realistically as possible, having first hand experience of the social group were trying to represent being teenagers ourselves.

For the main characters, Vanessa and David, we looked to represent them as your typical, regular teenagers. A main goal of ours was to not blow their personalities out of proportion but instead keep them normal and relatable rather than making them into a caricature of the social group we were representing. Inspiration came from thrillers like Disturbia where teenagers were the central characters, but remained honest and convincing in the manor they acted and dressed. Instead of an over the top look we let the actors select their own clothes as if they would on a regular day to increase the realism and avoid making our film look over the top. Youth are often stereotypical represented as out of control and drug abusing in films and whilst we have portrayed them as interested in the consumption of psychedelics we have also made our characters appear nice and more importantly likable, portraying the group in a positive light despite the illegal activities taking place.
