Evaluation question 6

Technology is rapidly evolving every day and steadily making it easier and easier for people to make a realistic, good quality film from the comfort of their own home. Not so long ago producing a HD movie wouldn't have even been possible at all, let alone producing one independently, but through modern innovations we are now able to film, edit, and share our movies with relative ease. Throughout the task we utilized many different technologies spanning from tools in real life to websites on the internet to help us get to the final cut.

We used image editing tool Adobe Photoshop to create a poster for our film, along with the BBFC movie classification sign at the beginning of our movie.

We used Adobe Elements to create graphics for our movie, for both the title of the film and for our production company logos. I had never used this  program before but I found it quite easy to figure out, yet still effective to use. We used it to add animation to the words and to add animated graphics such as smoke.

Possibly the most important program of all that we used. I Movie is a  free video editing software that comes with all mac computers and was used for editing our film. I have had quite a lot of experience using video editing tools before such as Windows Movie Maker, Adobe Premiere Elements and Sony Vegas and whilst I Movie was not quite as advanced as Pro or Vegas I found it was a lot more effective than WMM, allowing you to make very professional looking videos with a fantastic amount of ease.

We used a Canon Legria HD camcorder to record our film. I've had a reasonable amount of experience making films, previously having created my own short pieces with my friends for fun. Usually I use the standard record function on a normal photo camera so using the Canon Legria was a big step up from my previous experience. Thankfully it was  great to use and resulted in a beautifully clear HD picture with wobble resistance and excellent sound quality. Importing the clips onto I Movie was just as easy too, accomplished by simply connecting a cable from the computer to the camera and pressing the appropriete button.

Dolly tracks were used by us during scene in the examination hall. We wanted the shot to be slow and steady so recording via handheld was just not an option. This was my first time using tracks and I found that they were great and allowed us to produce realistic shots that wouldn't look out of place in an actual movie.

The internet has to be one of the greatest inventions of all time. Without it, performing research and sharing and analyzing our work would be a whole lot more difficult, so naturally it played a big part in the project.

Research is key. We used popular video sharing website Youtube firstly to research thriller openings, watching a range of them varying from openings of real movies to previous years AS level work. This helped to give us an idea of the standard of work expected, and how ours should hope to turn out. We also used Youtube to upload our final cut as it can be integrated into blogger through the use of HTML code.

Blogger is a website that allows you to easily track your work by posting individual posts onto a web page, this was a vitally important tool throughout the entire project as it allowed us to display the research, development and construction of our final piece. Blogger was something I had never used before but I found it very easy to get the hang of and enjoyed writing short pieces for it. I also designed the layout for our page, changing the background, adding pictures of famous thrillers and creating a logo for our blog to display at the top.

Newgrounds is a flash game, movie and audio website that thrives on custom user created content. The audio portal sections contains royalty-free user made music and we downloaded some tense, scary tracks from here to put in our movie.
